Casement windows are excellent choices in hot climates when windows are often opened during the cooler season and at night. They are attached to frames by hinges and open with a crank or handle, usually to the left or right, but there are casement windows that also swing open vertically to the outside.
Casement windows are single pieces of glass, that allows for an uninterrupted view. You’ll also find them installed above larger ones to provide ventilation without disruptive wind gusts. They were the standard window type in older homes, before sash windows were introduced. In recent years, they’ve made a comeback in residential homes.
